BIO
Back in 1994, Mr. Bernhart earned a bachelor's degree in English Education 6-12 from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. In 1995, he moved to Houston to teach and dedicate himself to urban education. Mr. Bernhart has happily taught English Language Arts in middle schools in the Houston area since 1995.
During his tenure in HISD, he had the honor of being featured in a CPB/Maryland Public Television professional development video series based on Dr. Judith Langer's research on teaching literature. He was also honored as teacher of the year at Fondren Middle School. In 2005, he earned a master's degree in teaching from the University of Houston-Downtown and was selected by his professors to receive special honors. Mr. Bernhart has presented teaching strategies and ideas (and continues to do s0) to other teachers at conventions locally, in the state of Texas, and nationally. In June of 2015, his first book--an instructional book for teachers written with Mr. Drayton and Mr. Sebek--was published by Prufrock Press. Check it out through the linked image below!
In his free time, Mr. B enjoys spending time with his family. He is also a "recreational" marathoner (26.2 miles), having run 36 marathons over the past decade or so. In April of 2013, he ran 47 miles as part of the relay for life to support the American Cancer Society.
But most importantly, Mr. Bernhart loves teaching and does his best to impact students' lives through engaging activities and high standards--both in academics and classroom environment. And although this is not public information, let it be known that one of the main reasons--other than the fact that it is a GREAT school--that Mr. Bernhart decided to teach at Quail Valley Middle School is the school colors. Green and Gold! Those are the colors of the Green Bay Packers. GO PACK GO!
